J Paul Smith Construction began in 1962 by George Hamilton III’s grandfather and Cumberland county native, J Paul Smith. J Paul built numerous golf courses and subdivisions in Cumberland and Putnam counties as well as developed residential areas; involving the construction of roads, site preparation and installation of underground utilities. Upon his death in 2018, George Hamilton III inherited the original company of J Paul Smith Construction and merged the two together to form the Hamilton Consulting and Construction, LLC. HCC has recently returned to it's roots and gone back to the original name of J Paul Smith Construction. Hamilton Consulting and Construction, LLC. began in 2015 when George Hamilton III graduated Tennessee Technological University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and began his own company. Since its creation, HCC has successfully completed more than $80 million worth of diverse construction projects; consisting of environmental management of Sequatchie Valley Coal, numerous multi-family developments, transmission line & substation projects, management of landfills, work at Center Hill Dam, as well as various other large-scale construction projects.
